The Alliance is a group of eight founding member organizations who work collectively to advance the protection of Oregon’s ocean and coastal ecosystems. Our geographic scope includes federal and state ocean waters, and coastal habitats such as estuaries and beaches.

Background

The Alliance was formed in 2024 by eight environmental organizations. Although many of our groups have worked together on individual issues, we agreed it was time to form an Alliance to work together in a more coordinated and proactive way to raise awareness and ultimately move forward important conservation needs in the coastal and marine space.

Core Priorities

Enhanced Funding for Ocean Conservation in Oregon

The Oregon Ocean Alliance is investing time to explore and help secure funding to support coastal and marine conservation from a variety of sources including federal, state and legislative opportunities.

Heceta Bank Complex Protection

We are in the early stages of considering stronger protections for the Heceta Bank Complex. This effort will include engaging with key stakeholders including Tribes, the fishing industry, scientists, and coastal communities.

Strong Marine Reserves & Marine Protected Area Program

We are working diligently to ensure Oregon’s marine reserve and protected area program stays intact and its full potential is realized.

Kelp & Eelgrass Conservation

As an Alliance, we support increased protections and restoration activities that enhance and recover kelp and eelgrass habitat to increase climate resilience and enhance biodiversity.

Rocky Habitat Protection & Conservation

Moving forward, we need to ensure designated rocky habitat sites are implemented successfully (i.e. they don’t just become “paper parks”).
